(The initial recall from May had to do with insufficient ratchet tooth engagement, attributed to excess wear in the dies used to manufacture the stands). Now, Harbor Freight has had to announce a second recall, covering the new jack stands that many folks purchased to replace those covered by the initial recall. The 22-ton heavy-duty jack stands list at 189.99 per pair, the 12-ton. Customers were asked to return the stands in exchange for a gift card, and affected units were pulled from shelves. All three of these jack stands are available for purchase at Harbor Freight, and at the budget-friendly pricing youd expect. Besides, Ive never considered jack stands to be your main support vector. But, HF just pulled the whole line and took the time to develop a better product. In fact, this is really the only case of one of the stands being damaged that Ive seen. Back in May, we wrote about a selection of Pittsburgh brand three- and six-ton jack stands recalled by Harbor Freight because of a manufacturing defect that could cause them to collapse under load, potentially causing injury or death. The only thing Ive seen is one photo of a stand that had bent/torn down the middle.
